Your delivery hospital is willing to transfer your baby’s medical information to your pediatrician of choice. The hospital may require that you sign an authorization to transfer records before the records can be transferred. The authorization form can be obtained at the hospital or your pediatrician’s office. Most pediatricians want to see a new baby about two weeks after birth for the first checkup. Please contact your pediatrician’s office within 2-3 days after discharge  to schedule this initial two-week appointment.

Our neonatologists will perform a circumcision on your male child upon request. Most male infants in Jackson are circumcised. Although recent studies show the decreased incidence of bladder and kidney infections in circumcised male infants, circumcision is still considered an elective procedure.

We will be happy to discuss the pros and cons of this procedure with you as you make your decision. Local anesthesia is available for the procedure, and circumcision is usually performed while the child is still in the hospital.

Because the procedure is elective, it is usually not covered by insurance or Medicaid. Most commercial insurance plans will cover the circumcision; however, Medicaid will not cover the cost of the procedure. Our policy is to require payment prior to performing the circumcision.

If you have any questions regarding your child’s health before he or she has visited the pediatrician, you may call the baby care line for the hospital where you delivered. The Newborn Associates will bill separately from the hospital. You should receive a card from your obstetrician or the hospital giving information on how to pre-register with us. We will send you an estimate for your bill and discuss payment options with you. It is the policy of The Newborn Associates to collect the deductible, co-insurance, and non-covered items prior to delivery.
